Real Madrid defenders Sergio Ramos and Sergio Reguilon had standout performances for Spain in their 4-0 win over Ukraine.

As Real Madrid fans anxiously wait for the 2020-2021 La Liga season to begin, they are drinking in the UEFA Nations League action. Spain have a few Madridistas and Real transfer targets to watch closely, and two of their players, defenders Sergio Ramos and Sergio Reguilon, put in massive shifts on Sunday.

Spain defeated Ukraine 4-0 in their latest group stage game, with Ramos adding two goals, one of them being yet another successfully-converted penalty kick.

Ramos, per WhoScored.com, had 91 touches and completed over 95 percent of his passes in another vintage controlling performance at the back. He offers so much more than great defending and so much more than goals.

But even though he didn’t score, Real Madrid left back Sergio Reguilon was arguably even more impressive for La Roja. The 2019-2020 breakout star at Sevilla led Spain with four key passes, recording an assist in the process.

Real Madrid LB Sergio Reguilon impressed defensively, too

Defensively, Reguilon was impressive, which was important since that is sometimes pointed out as a weakness of his. Nobody on the team had more total defensive interventions than Reguilon, who had three tackles and two interceptions for La Roja in the blowout victory.

It’s always great to see Real Madrid players producing at a high level for their national teams, especially this close to the season. We’ve come to expect these kinds of performances from Ramos, but seeing Reguilon debut and play at this high of a level against Ukraine was a huge positive.

Reguilon picked up an ankle injury in the match, but he should be good-to-go in the future.

Of course with Reguilon, the backdrop is the transfer rumors. Reguilon is expected to join a new club this summer, and he’s been linked to several Premier League sides, including Manchester United. Reguilon needs playing time, but Real would be wise to keep the left back if they can. His value is only going to skyrocket as the Europa League champion continues to make a name for himself on the big stages.
