CB Ivana Andres

Kosovare Asllani is an important leader for Real Madrid, but Ivana Andres is the official captain for the club. And when you watch Las Blancas play in Liga Iberdrola, you can see why she is anointed with the honor of being the team’s leader.

The No. 15 is the star of the back four, even on a team with rising star fullback Kenti Robles and consistent national team star Marta Corredera.

Andres means so much to Las Blancas, because they do not have a center back in the squad who is at her level. She is composed with her passing out of the back and is a national team-quality player who shows it when she makes interventions defensively.

She has been consistently good in her first season for Real Madrid, and even though the club has made some major signings like Cardona and Teresa Abelleira in midfield (or the aforementioned Corredera and Robles), I have to say that Andres will end up being the most important signing of the summer.

Her leadership and quality in defense have made all the difference, transforming Las Blancas from one of the most dubious defensive sides in Liga Iberdrola into a competent unit that can help the team grind out tough victories if, by chance, the attack isn’t quite clicking. It’s not a stretch to say that Andres is one of the top five defenders in this league, and she is closer to No. 1 than No. 5.
