Real Madrid, thankfully, won’t consider an option to buy for Martin Odegaard

Real Madrid fans are waiting with nervous anticipation over the future of attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard, who could very well leave the Spanish capital on a loan deal this summer.

Odegaard has played a meager five minutes since the start of December, and Madridistas are puzzled as to why Zinedine Zidane, who seemingly valued the young midfielder enough to recall him from loan this summer, hasn’t made space for the player.

Interestingly enough, Odegaard has started this season in big games, including the opener against Real Sociedad and a Champions League fixture vs. Inter Milan, but his recent omissions from a less-rotated squad have led to questions of trust.

Those questions are understandable. But it is clear that Real Madrid still value Odegaard incredibly highly in terms of his long-term value to the squad, even as they are willing to facilitate a loan move to accommodate his request for more minutes.

Martin Odegaard is very likely the future of Real Madrid’s (attacking) midfield

There have been some murmurs of Real Sociedad – or another club – asking for an option to buy in a loan deal for Odegaard.

Thankfully, MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz (report in Spanish) makes it abundantly clear that Real Madrid will not consider this. He writes that they will never accept a loan deal with a purchase option, and this is specifically due to the “faith” they have in the 22-year-old.

Odegaard can be a true superstar at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madridistas have not forgotten what Odegaard accomplished last season with Real Sociedad, and he would have led them to a Champions League place if it weren’t for a knee injury. With his Player of the Year-caliber performances in the first months of the season, Odegaard showed that he has what it takes to be a contributor to Real Madrid already.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that yet, but it is relieving to hear that Los Blancos will not even think of sacrificing a future with Odegaard pulling the strings in the midfield at the White House. After all, we keep hearing that they plan on anointing him the generational great Luka Modric’s successor.
