Real Madrid put on an entertaining display as they defeated Getafe 2-0 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano with two second-half goals. Except for a Casemiro effort that went over the bar following a scramble in the box, Los Blancos did not create many clear scoring opportunities in the first half. The team looked out of sync in the final third that led to many good sequences go to waste.

However, Zinedine Zidane’s team talk at half time worked as the Merengues looked purposeful in their play in the second half. Their movements were better, and communication improved among teammates. Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a header after connecting to a perfectly placed Vinicius Junior cross. Ferland Mendy doubled the score after making a fantastic run into the box and guiding home Marcelo’s pass.

Here is how the Real Madrid players performed.

Thibaut Courtois – 7/10

Courtois must be happy to get one night where he did not have to make a clutch save. He did not have to deal with any shots from Getafe. The Belgian did well with his feet under pressure when needed.

Nacho Fernandez – 7/10

Nacho did well alongside Varane and Mendy in the back three. He was positionally efficient and helped Real Madrid keep a clean sheet.

Raphael Varane – 8/10

Varane followed up a match-winning performance against Huesca with another stalwart showing. He once again showed leadership by leading the back-line effectively and shut down Getafe. The visitors only managed one shot in the game and none on target.

More from The Real Champs

Ferland Mendy – 8.5/10

Ferland Mendy was rock solid in defense. He played as a center back and looked good doing so. He also started and finished a brilliant move to get his second goal for Real Madrid.

Marvin Park – 7/10

Park started his first La Liga game, and he did not disappoint. While he did not light it up offensively, his two-way presence was immense. The youngster worked hard to track back and contribute defensively, winning two tackles, two interceptions, and two clearances. He also completed two dribbles in the match.

Luka Modric – 6/10

Modric did not have his usual high standard game. He completed only 84% of his passes and failed to create any goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates despite taking several set pieces in the absence of Toni Kroos. The Croatian almost scored a goal with a shot from the top of the box, but David Soria pushed the ball away.

Casemiro – 6/10

Similar to Modric, Casemiro did not have a lot of involvement in the middle of the park. He only completed two of his five long balls with a pass accuracy of just 78%, per Whoscored.com.

Marcelo – 8.5/10

Marcelo had a man of the match performance. Zidane played Marcelo in an advanced left midfield position where without the defensive responsibilities, the Real Madrid captain on the night played with freedom and showcased his creativity. He contributed with five key passes, one of them directly leading to Mendy’s goal.

Marco Asensio – 7/10

Marco Asensio looked confident on the ball against Getafe. He was not afraid to get involved and played well with Marvin Park on the right. He completed four key passes before being replaced in the 75th minute.

Vinicius Junior – 7.5/10

Vinicius seemed out of sync with his teammates in the first half. He only completed one of his dribbles and failed to connect with his teammates often. The Brazillian looked impressive when he got shifted to the right. In the second half, the entire team looked more in sync, and Vinicius put the ball in a silver platter for Benzema’s goal.

Karim Benzema – 7.5/10

Benzema scored the opener for Real Madrid with an excellent header. He was more involved in the second half.
