Real Madrid have a number of talented players in Castilla who have first-team potential. We have already seen Sergio Arribas, Victor Chust, and Marvin Park get multiple runs with the first team this season, with Marvin impressing on Tuesday in a 2-0 win over Getafe as a starter.

In the next several years, we could be talking about Miguel Gutierrez as part of the left back picture, especially if Ferland Mendy’s role at midweek was foreshadowing of a future at center back. Gutierrez is one of the most promising young left backs in Europe, and so it comes as no surprise that a La Liga side already wants him on loan.

According to a report from La Razon (article in Spanish), Real Betis has been impressed with Miguel Gutierrez’s performances with Real Madrid’s Castilla and would like to sign the 19-year-old on a two-year loan deal for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.

Gutierrez seems to be ready to take the next step in his career, but he probably isn’t ready to play for Real Madrid in 2021-2022. Los Blancos are expected to move on from Marcelo, who has interest from Juventus, which would leave the left back position open. But they could just as easily sign David Alaba on a free as Sergio Ramos’ replacement; he is a natural left back beyond being a center back option. Sergio Reguilon is another option, too.

Would Miguel Gutierrez get sufficient playing time with Real Betis?

A loan at Real Betis would likely be better for Gutierrez’s development, given that he would have an easier path to playing time. But as we saw with Takefusa Kubo’s loan to Villarreal or Reinier’s move to Borussia Dortmund, a loan move is not always fruitful in terms of minutes. So Real Madrid would have to think long and hard about the fit between Gutierrez and Los Verdiblancos.

Currently, Betis have a high-quality La Liga left back in Alex Moreno, who has been one of the club’s better performers this season. That is something to consider here, even if Manuel Pellegrini is able to fit in sufficient minutes for Gutierrez in a rotation with Moreno.

Still, it’s great to hear that a notable, top-half club in La Liga is eyeing Gutierrez. Maybe a smaller club in La Liga would be better for Gutierrez, but it is true that the 19-year-old fullback would find it easier to get first-team minutes with Betis than he would with Los Merengues.
