Real Madrid are always looking to stay ahead of the competition when it comes to scouting the world’s best young talent, and they have reportedly identified a left-footed, 18-year-old midfielder from Argentina’s Primera Division.

According to a report from Jorge Garcia of AS (article in Spanish), Real Madrid are interested in Velez Sarsfield prospect Maximo Perrone. He has never played a minute of first-team football for Velez, but he has been a part of the U20 and “II” teams.

Garcia goes on to write that Perrone has been compared with former Real Madrid legend Fernando Redondo. The Argentine star is one of the classiest midfielders we have ever seen. Lofty comparisons like this one don’t necessarily do young players favors and are not always valid, but they are fun and give us somewhat of an idea of the skillset that an unknown, teenage midfielder like Perrone could bring to the table for Los Merengues.

While Madridistas are understandably growing tired of being linked with completely unproven prospects, we should always file news items like this one in the “positive” column. Interest in a young player does not guarantee that they will be signed, but it gives us a prospect to think about as fans and is a reminder of the diligence of Real’s high-priced, acclaimed scouting system.

Maximo Perrone is a name for Real Madrid fans to keep in mind now

As a whole, Real Madrid do a great job of identifying young talent in South America. If you disagree with this, you are ignoring the great successes of Rodrygo Goes and Fede Valverde when on the pitch over the past couple of seasons. They are already reportedly considered untouchable by Florentino Perez and club decision-makers.

Perrone is a very young player who needs to get on the pitch and keep impressing, but it says a lot that he is reportedly on Real’s radar and on the list of other clubs, per the report from AS.

Technical quality, decision-making, maturity, and elegance were all traits Garcia praised in writing with regards to Perrone. Let’s see if we hear his name come up more often in the year 2021. Facundo Pellistri was linked to Real Madrid as a prospect, and now he is at Manchester United. Perhaps Perrone can have a rise of his own in the next couple of years.
