LW Eden Hazard

We begin with Eden Hazard, who is probably the least likely of the three options in this piece to move. But he is the biggest name and the one who is currently struggling the most to set in at Real Madrid, through no real fault of his own.

Hazard has been the unluckiest player in football since joining Real in the summer 2019 transfer window. We saw glimpses of his brilliance in the Fall of 2019 before an injury against PSG’s former fullback Thomas Meunier doomed him, and he has never been the same since. Earlier this year, Hazard had some great moments, including a wondergoal against Huesca, but he’s mostly been unavailable.

Although Hazard is currently worth nowhere near the 100 million-plus that Real Madrid spent to sign him from Chelsea, he still holds some value. Transfermarkt rates him at 40 million euros, but perhaps Real could get some more out of PSG or even package Hazard with another forward like Marco Asensio.

But I don’t see a package deal happening (based on what we saw with the Neymar negotiations with Barcelona, PSG prefer quality over quantity in swaps), nor do I see PSG showing any interest in an injury-prone veteran when they could just as easily pursue Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi as Mbappe replacements, if it came to that.

Hazard is a star player who could fit at PSG if fully healthy, but that’s such a big “if” at this point. The Belgian’s transfer value has taken such a huge hit that I’m not sure Leonardo would want him, but he is one of the very few players notable enough to use as a trade chip. Many of the others, such as Thibaut Courtois and Fede Valverde, are untouchable to Los Blancos.
