LB Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy was impeccable in February, but he fell back down to earth in the month of March. The French left back scored twice the previous month, including a banger on the road against Atalanta to win the match, but he was quite atrocious offensively in March. The low point came in El Derbi, when, per WhoScored.com, Mendy was dispossessed a whopping six times. His crossing still needs work, too.

Rating: 5.0

CB Nacho Fernandez

Sergio Ramos only played against Elche and Atalanta, so there is more of a sample size for Nacho Fernandez, who started in every game last month. As in February, the Spanish international did a solid job for Los Blancos defensively, and he’s never really been caught out since emerging on the scene as a starter when Ramos first went down.

With Ramos injured again, Nacho could have a big month of April, too. He is coming off a pair of brilliant performances against Celta Vigo and Atalanta, recording six tackles, six interceptions, and six clearances combined. Devilishly good.

Rating: 7.5

CB Raphael Varane

His usual center back partner, Raphael Varane, had a quieter month, but he was still solid, turning in a great performance against Atalanta. He had four interceptions against Atalanta and is coming off an impressive 15 clearances combined in his last two games. Aside from a rough match against Atleti, he had a quality month.

Rating: 6.5

RB Lucas Vazquez

Lucas Vazquez was wiped off the field by Yannick Carrasco in El Derbi, and he is fortunate Real Madrid pulled a point out of that game. But he also deserves some credit for rebounding and fighting hard, getting relief after Carrasco was pulled in order to help Real salvage something out of a match that Atleti dominated for about an hour.

The right back was great against Atalanta with an assist, two key passes, three dribbles completed, two fouls drawn, and four tackles. Talk about making an all-around impact. As a whole, he did a good job and was excellent at creating chances for teammates, particularly against La Real to start the month.
