Real Madrid have made Kylian Mbappe their priority in the summer transfer market this year. That comes as no surprise to Madridistas, who have been tracking rumors linking Mbappe to Los Blancos for years. And during that same period of time, PSG have been working hard to ensure they can keep the Paris native in the French capital for the long term.

But to this point, Mbappe has yet to re-sign with PSG. He has rebuffed their extension offers, which has given Madridistas a lot of hope that the superstar forward will be the next Galactico. And Madridistas know how badly the club need a prolific, young goal-scorer who can rack up 30 in a season from a wide forward position.

Although there have been reports stating that Kylian Mbappe will make his way to Real Madrid this summer, it seems like it would be premature to assume Real will sign him. There is reason for optimism, yes, but Mbappe has not actually made a decision on his future.

According to a report from Julien Maynard of Telefoot, Mbappe has not made a decision on his future yet, because he wants to focus on finishing the season strong.

Kylian Mbappe is focused on winning the treble with PSG this season

And that makes sense. PSG are locked in their toughest title race yet in Ligue 1, while they hold a 3-2 advantage over the team that beat them in last year’s Champions League Final, Bayern Munich. As if that weren’t enough, the Parisians are gearing up for the Coup de France quarterfinals soon against Angers.

Per Maynard, Mbappe and PSG remain in “regular” talks about a renewal, as PSG continue to sell the superstar on their future plans. Meanwhile, Maynard adds a gentle reminder that Mbappe’s contract does not end until 2022, meaning PSG do not have to sell him this summer unless they feel it is impossible to convince him at any point.

In that case, they would probably sell to Real Madrid, whom they have a good relationship with, to avoid losing Mbappe for free and any bad PR from that potential fallout.

But for now, Mbappe is a PSG player. He may “wink”, as the Spanish press likes to say, at Real Madrid from time to time, but Maynard’s report makes it very clear that Mbappe is focus on the remaining matches of the 2020-2021 campaign. As he should. He and PSG have a chance to accomplish something special this year, and Mbappe already owns two incredible, career-defining Champions League matches this campaign with a hat-trick at the Camp Nou and a delightful brace against Bayern.
