Sergio Ramos Injury: How much longer could CB miss?
Real Madrid center back Sergio Ramos suffered an injury in March during the international break against Kosovo and was out for a number of weeks. The captain made his return to Los Blancos this past Wednesday night in the Champions League, but he clearly was not ready to play.
Ramos struggled against the Blues, playing one of the worst Champions League matches of his illustrious career. And Los Blancos tumbled out of the competition, falling 2-0 in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Now, Real Madrid have officially announced that Ramos has tendonitis in the semimembranosus muscle in his left hamstring. And Madridistas are left wondering if they will see the star center back at any point this season. He may have even played his last game for the club, with the final memory being that sour ending against Chelsea.
According to Dr. Gonzalez on El Transistor, Sergio Ramos could need three weeks to recover from this tendonitis.
Sergio Ramos may not play for the rest of the season
Since Los Blancos’ final game of the 2020-2021 La Liga season will take place on May 23 against Villarreal, we may not see Ramos on the pitch before the season ends. That’s two weeks between now and Villarreal, with matches against Sevilla, Granada, and Athletic Bilbao in between. So that’s not enough time for Ramos to play, based on the suggested recovery window from Dr. Gonzalez.
It could be a sad end for Ramos’ career in Madrid, given that he is already teasing a move to PSG through social media. Ramos has accomplished incredible things at this club and will always be a legend no matter what, but it hurts for Madridistas to see this potentially be the final chapter for the No. 4 if he does not re-sign.
But there remains hope he will stay. We should also wish him the best in his recovery. Maybe he surprises us and plays one last time in 2020-2021 against Villarreal, but it does not look likely at all. It is better for him to rest, too. He already took an unnecessary risk by playing against Chelsea, and it did not pay off, as evidenced by the current injury. Let’s see if the remaining defenders can ensure Ramos’ injury does not hold them back from a second straight La Liga crown.
