Defense
Who is going to stay?
Sergio Ramos has missed a major portion of this season due to injuries, which gave Nacho a chance to cover for him. And the loyal servant of Real Madrid made the best out of his chance, with consistent rock-solid performances as the left center-back. It is fair to say that Nacho has been Real Madrid’s best center-back this season, and he would definitely continue at Real Madrid.
Eder Militao has always been unlucky with the chances and game time, but since the 1st leg against Liverpool, he has got his chances and he had finally shown his worth. He has been world-class in the last two months, and he might have actually convinced the club that he can replace Varane if the Frenchman leaves. The club wouldn’t let him go, and they would be happy to see him continue the form next season as well, in which he might be a starter.
Though there are always questions about Ferland Mendy’s contribution in attack and Dani Carvajal’s fitness, they both are simply superb whenever they’re fit. Considering their quality, the club wouldn’t let go of any of their starting full-backs.
There were always doubts about Alvaro Odriozola’s future, but now it looks like he might continue for another season. He has slowly turned around his Real Madrid career in the last month and a half, and AS suggests that Real Madrid is interested in giving another opportunity to the 24-year-old right-back.
Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane
Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, who have been the club’s first-choice center-back pair for the past 5-6 seasons, are both reported to leave Real Madrid this summer. While Ramos might become a free agent this summer with his current contract expiring on June 30th, Varane is possibly looking for a new challenge in England, after spending 10 years at Los Blancos.
Real Madrid can deal with the exit of any one of them, but both of them leaving might be a huge loss for Real Madrid, though Varane’s sale might generate some funds. Varane is currently linked to Manchester United, whileRamos’ destination is still unknown. Their exit isn’t confirmed yet, but most probably at least one of them might leave.
Marcelo
Another club legend is set to leave Real Madrid, who is none other than one of the club’s longest-serving foreign players, Marcelo. The 33-year-old has been highly disappointing this season like he has been since 2018, and he might leave for free this summer, despite having a contract until 2022. And the club does have a replacement ready in the form of Castilla player Miguel Gutierrez.
New faces
The club is going to sign David Alaba on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, with news being all but confirmed. With Ramos and Varane’s future uncertain, the club is also linked to some young center-backs like Pau Torres and Jules Kounde. Real Madrid isn’t linked to any full-back yet, but if Odriozola doesn’t stay, the club would’ve to look for a backup right-back.
