In my previous article, I mentioned three forwards that Real Madrid could consider selling this summer transfer window to raise funds.
Gareth Bale was one of the free forwards that I had mentioned, and ABC Deportes reported that the 31-year-old is considering retiring after the Euros with Wales.
A decision to retire at 31 would have been puzzling to say the least after his stellar individual campaign with Tottenham Hotspur this season- scoring 16 goals in all competitions.
However, Fabrizio Romano has cleared the air and has put an end to the rumour mill regarding Bale’s premature retirement.
The Italian journalist has stated that the rumours are fake and that he has no plans of retiring after the Euros with Wales. Instead, he plans on settling his future with Real Madrid he is still on contract with Los Blancos until the summer of 2022. The Welshman is open to continuing at the Spanish capital and could possibly even head back to Tottenham for another loan or be sold permanently depending on the manager they appoint.
Gareth Bale is still good enough to help Real Madrid
In my opinion, Bale still has the quality to play out the final year of his contract at Real Madrid alongside Karim Benzema and probably even Kylian Mbappe, however, the presence of Zinedine Zidane at the helm could make his future complicated. The pair fell out in 2019 when Zidane led Los Blancos to their 34th league title and since then their relationship has only gotten bitter with time.
However, the rumours about Bale wanting to get away from the pressure of football and pursue a professional career in golf is nothing but a farce in the rumour mill business.
Although, the Welshman has made a decision on his future but is not yet ready to reveal it as he plans on focusing on the upcoming Euro rather than being involved in a media frenzy over his future. In the 2016 European Championships, Gareth Bale managed to reach the semi-finals of the competition before being knocked by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal that went on to win the competition. Bale will look to progress as far as possible with Wales this time around after being slotted into a relatively easier group.
"“It just has to happen after the Euros,” Bale told Sky Sports.“I know what I’m doing but it’ll just cause chaos if I say anything now.”"
However, if Gareth Bale has decided to leave Real Madrid after the Euros, then so be it. Real Madrid should not think twice about terminating his contract or selling him if possible as the club has to free up wages if they are to sign Kylian Mbappe. Bale is one of the highest-paid players at the club and releasing him would free up ample money on the payroll.
Irrespective of his decision, he will always be remembered as a Real Madrid legend. He has always given his 100% when called upon and has given the fans several memories to cherish both at Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
