Real Madrid: Ranking the 10 best goals of the 2020/21 season
9 – Luka Modric helps Miguel Gutierrez introduce himself to the world
An away game against the physical Granada side is always a tricky one. They are solid and rough in defence, and quick on the break. It requires something good to break past them. Luka Modric and Miguel Gutierrez combined to produce that moment of magic and opened the scoring in the 17th minute.
It was the usual slow buildup from the team, and Miguel received the ball on the left flank from Nacho. Miguel cut inside with his left foot, and Modric made a run into the box through the middle and asked the 19-year-old left-back for a pass towards him. Modric didn’t expect much and it was just a hopeful run from him.
But what followed next might have surprised the hell out of Modric because he received a pinpoint pass from the outside of the La Fabrica graduate’s left boot, who was making his first start for Real Madrid. That peach of a pass from Miguel deserved a goal, and Modric duly scored with a left-footed shot that went through Rui Silva’s legs.
Modric went on to celebrate the goal by running towards the young Spaniard, after making sure that the chance created by Miguel would be registered as an assist, and helped Miguel in introducing himself to the world of football.
