Real Madrid Transfers: Why Kylian Mbappe could be sold for less than expected
It’s not easy being a Real Madrid fan at the moment. Madridista’s were stunned to see Sergio Ramos’s departure and are now most likely set for another shock as Raphael Varane is closer than ever towards embarking on a new challenge after links with Manchester United, as per ESPN.
It’s even tougher to watch your rivals Barcelona making moves in the transfer window. The Catalans have landed Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, and Sergio Aguero on a free transfer recently. Other top European sides are also making moves in the market, Paris Saint-Germain have landed Gini Wijnaldum and are now closing in on Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Sergio Ramos.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid remain motionless in this busy summer transfer window with all their being banked on Kylian Mbappe. A rather poor transfer policy in my opinion- Mbappe or nothing. However, that is the club’s decision and there’s not much one can do about it.
However, there is good news as Kylian Mbappe could be sold for a lot cheaper than expected this summer. According to L’Equipe, Mbappe has told PSG that he does not want to renew his contract that runs out in the summer of 2022.
This decision puts PSG on a tight rope, should they hold onto Mbappe until 2022 and let him leave for free? Or sell him this summer for a reduced transfer fee and sign an immediate replacement using the funds received from the sale.
HOW DOES MBAPPE’S RECENT DECISION IMPACT HIS TRANSFER VALUE?
Kylian Mbappe has been rather calm and composed with his behaviour in the media after being linked all summer with an exit. He’s snubbed questions on his future at PSG a few times and now he does not want to renew terms.
So, a player who is on a contract until 2022 and is valued at well over 150 million euros does not want to renew terms. What should Paris Saint-Germain do? Well, the only viable answer in my opinion would be to sell Kylian Mbappe and use the funds to replace him with another top winger in the market.
With that being said, the 22-year-old’s transfer value could drop to 125 million euros when compared to his earlier valuation that was set at 150 million euros and above. This does come as good news for Real Madrid, however, 120 million euros is still a lot of money excluding all the additional costs such as wages, agent fees, bonuses etc.
Jadon Sancho’s recent sale to Manchester United for 90 million euros proves that a player of a superstar status can be sold. While Mbappe is certainly of a higher calibre to Sancho, he could also be sold for a reduced transfer fee like the Englishman.
However, his reduced transfer fee makes the possibility of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer more realistic. Real Madrid could easily raise 120 million euros by selling a few players. Varane has been linked with a 50-60 million euro move to Manchester United and Los Blancos could offload a few more to raise the required funds.
What is your opinion on this entire transfer fiasco? Can Real Madrid finally get their hands on Kylian Mbappe this summer and if yes, at what cost?
