Raphael Guerreiro to Real Madrid

Next up on the list is one of BVB Dortmund’s key players, Raphael Guerreiro. The 27-year-old player has been recently linked to Real Madrid, with the German source BILD reporting that Carlo Ancelotti wants Guerreiro at Real Madrid.

As the rumour suggests, Carlo Ancelotti might like to see the attack-minded fullback in the royal white jersey. But transfers at Real Madrid aren’t in the hands of the manager and they are always overseen by President Florentino Perez and the CEO of Real Madrid, Jose Angel Sanchez. And I hope they don’t consider the signing of the Portuguese.

The left-back position at Real Madrid is already filled with a younger and stronger Ferland Mendy, captain Marcelo, Castilla left-back Miguel Gutierrez and the recently signed David Alaba as options. David Alaba might be used as a centre-back but we can see best of him as a left-back and counting him Real Madrid currently have four options for the left-back position.

Considering the abundance of options, Real Madrid wouldn’t contemplate the option of activating Sergio Reguilon’s buy-back clause in his current deal at Tottenham Hotspur. At such a time, Real Madrid shouldn’t be signing another left-back with a price tag of 40 million euros. That too when the club is looking to save every penny to cover up for the pandemic losses and the signing of an attacker.

Guerreiro is a talented player and he has made the left-back and left-wing back position in Portugal and BVB Dortmund his own. But he is a player who demands some time with the ball at his feet and is generally slow with his decision making, while being defensively vulnerable. He might be a misfit at Real Madrid, as the club has kept their focus on having two-way fullbacks as of late.
