Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have faced several times in the UEFA Champions League over the last decade, with the former coming out on top more often than not.
Los Blancos and the Bavarians are the cream of the crop when it comes to world football and there is little to doubt their success domestically or continentally too. In recent years, there has been a movement of players going either way with Toni Kroos and Xabi Alonso being the latest players to switch pastures from one end to the other.
According to Diario AS, Bayern Munich marksman Robert Lewandowski dreams of moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in the upcoming months. His contract with the club expires in one more year and amid fear of losing their most lethal forward, Bayern have turned their attention to signing potential replacements in the current transfer window itself.
Will Robert Lewandowski be able to realise his dream of playing for Real Madrid?
Despite the player possessing brilliant qualities, his move to the Spanish capital is an extremely unlikely prospect. Los Blancos turned down the signing of Edinson Cavani as a free agent last summer because of the age factor, so spending even a single penny on Lewandowski is going against that very principle, especially with the board focusing on an entirely different player profile.
At the moment, Florentino Perez is taking a very single-minded approach and the only player, or players rather, on his radar are Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. As a matter of fact, it would come as no surprise if the 73-year-old does not sign anybody this year if he fails to land either of his and the club’s primary targets from Germany or France, respectively.
Lewandowski is now 32 years old and his recent numbers suggest that he may equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s longevity in terms of goal-scoring. The Polish international is a frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or even this year after his exploits in the Bundesliga last season and that is enough to suggest that Bayern Munich would want a massive sum for him if he wishes to leave this year.
Apart from Lewandowski’s wish of moving to Real Madrid which he may even be ready to fulfill by taking a cut in his payment, the question also remains over whether the Merengues need him in the first place even if they were willing to sign him. It is difficult to think why an out-and-out striker would be on the club’s radar when Karim Benzema is doing a fine job and is indispensable.
Do you think Real Madrid should go for Lewandowski?
