When Real Madrid signed Eden Hazard in the summer of 2019 for a lot of money, every Real Madrid fan had their hopes high. The fans needed something new, something different and something better after witnessing a depressing and trophyless 2018/19 season all of it while still struggling to cope with the departure of the club’s talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. With Hazard being the club’s biggest signing after Cristiano’s exit, Madridistas finally saw a ray of hope with the Belgian’s arrival, combined with the reappointment of Zidane and Luka Jovic’s signing.

The excitement among the fans was easily understandable from the way they relished Hazard’s presentation, with around 50,000 fans making their way into the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. This was the first time such numbers were recorded in the Bernabeu for a presentation since James Rodriguez’s arrival. For some fans, Hazard was a Galactico and a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, though the reality is different.

Fast forward to the summer of 2021, Eden Hazard’s journey at Real Madrid has been a nightmare, and his signing has been a total disaster for the club. In these two years, Eden Hazard has struggled with different injuries and has managed to play just 2441 minutes in two seasons. and the worst part is that he has never been able to be at his best, scoring only five goals in the two seasons.

His signing has turned to be a huge failure. Real Madrid had planned to sell Hazard this summer if an offer arrives for the left-winger. Hazard has ruled out that option and has made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave as a failure, and even Ancelotti has mentioned that he is looking forward to work with the Belgian.

There are various reasons behind Hazard’s downfall at Real Madrid, and many have pointed fingers at his commitment in the last few months. I see it as a case of pure bad luck, and slight irresponsibility from Hazard’s side as well. But what’s done cannot be undone. One can only hope Hazard’s career at Real Madrid takes a complete U-turn, and he can prove his worth, though it looks unlikely, looking at Hazard’s recent injury struggles.

Real Madrid can’t do anything currently. They can only hope for him to succeed. But the club can definitely learn a lot from this signing. Let us have a look at three such lessons Real Madrid can learn from Eden Hazard’s signing.
