In the past four transfer windows, excluding the recent free signing of David Alaba, Real Madrid have been dormant in the transfer market when signing players.

The team has more or less remained the same since 2019’s summer transfer market that saw the likes of Eden Hazard, Eder Miltiao, Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic and Rodrygo sign for the club.

Since that summer, Real went three consecutive transfer windows without a signing for the first time in the club’s history.

While Radio Marca has confirmed that there will be no new signings this summer, the club has welcomed six players back from loan – Dani Ceballos, Gareth Bale, Jovic, Martin Odegaard, Kubo and Jesus Vallejo for the meantime as possible reinforcements before their plans are mapped out.

While there have been departures and arrivals this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the 2021-22 season looks more or less ready (well, there still could be a few departures).

Let’s analyse some of the most valuable players in the squad before the start of the season on the basis of their current market value on the transfer market.

5. FERLAND MENDY

Zinedine Zidane took a bold step in the 2019/20 summer transfer window, the Frenchman demanded the signing of Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyon to replace Marcelo. Los Blancos splashed 50 million euros to get Mendy on board and since then the left-back has proved his worth in white and has lived up to his price tag.

Mendy’s presence in the back four was crucial in guiding Real Madrid to their 34th Spanish league title in his debut season. His defensive prowess has brought in a feeling of solidity to the backline and his performances have only improved ever since.

With that being said, Mendy’s value has only appreciated with his performances and he is currently valued at 50 million euros on the transfer market. At the age of 26, with four years on his contract, it seems like a fair valuation.

However, his value can shoot up further this season if Carlo Ancelotti can somehow improve his final product during attacking transitions.
