Last season was a tough one for Takefusa Kubo. Real Madrid sent Kubo away on loan to Villarreal for a season, without an option to buy. Villarreal are a top club in La Liga, and so it proved to be a great step-up for the Japanese. It didn’t work out there. He then went to Getafe, it didn’t quite work out there either. You know what happened, I’ve explained this many times before.

But, one-dimensionally speaking, everything seems to be changing pretty well. Kubo has represented Japan three times during the Olympics. Kubo has excelled for Japan three times, scoring a goal in every single game so far. He scored two winning goals, and has had brilliant performances all around.

Real Madrid might be able to get a great loan deal for Kubo because of his display at Olympics

Kubo’s great performances are giving potential suitors hope. What seemed to be like a player that wasn’t really performing well in La Liga, is now a player that is carrying his nation to victory in the Olympics. Granted, the sample size isn’t nearly as much as it should be. But there’s a lot to be happy about. Kubo is actually showing a lot of intent to make things happen. He wants his team to win, and he’s doing whatever’s needed so that it happens. That’s something that was missing in both of his short-term loan spells.

It’s great to see that side still exists. I mean, why wouldn’t it? He’s still very young.

The things Kubo did wrong are arguably still there, though, they’re just not being exposed, because he’s one of the best players they have, so they’re giving the keys to the offense to him. I don’t think he has to worry about the defense or positional awareness that much, because that’s not what is wanted from him.

But all that is working out for him right now. His stock is high. Clubs will genuinely consider getting him on loan from Real Madrid because of his performances at Olympics. But, what he does from there is very crucial. If he does get the loan move that he wants, that’s where he would need to correct all the things that he did wrong at Villarreal and Getafe. Kubo learned a lot there, and it will be time to implement that on potentially another good La Liga team.

But, what Kubo’s doing is great. It’ll help him in getting a loan deal that would be more beneficial than a mediocre Spanish team. It’s up to him how he builds off of that.
