Real Madrid need to find an ideal loan partner for young attacker Takefusa Kubo, who has a world of potential and recently showed his ability on a big stage at the Olympics. It has been an uneven first two seasons on Real’s books for the Japanese international, as Kubo’s encouraging first loan to Mallorca was followed up by a lost 2020-2021 season with Villarreal and Getafe.

Thus, Real Madrid are looking for some stability for their prospect, as they know Kubo can reach great heights if he can continue to take steps forward. He needs the right environment, and Real need that environment to be in LaLiga to help ease the 20-year-old’s eventual transition to the Royal White squad.

Mallorca and Real Sociedad have been pinpointed as the two main suitors for Kubo, and now Goal.com’s Mario Cortegana reports that the recently-promoted team are in the driver’s seat to sign Takefusa Kubo on loan from Real Madrid.

Kubo spent the 2019-2020 season with Mallorca, logging 2,312 minutes in LaLiga with four goals and four assists. He played very well and showed that he could reach a higher level in the league, yet he never got the chance to with the Yellow Submarine.

Mallorca should not be seen as a step down for Takefusa Kubo

And thus on the surface, a move back to Mallorca may seem like a step down for Kubo, as Real Madrid fans may have wanted to see what Kubo could do with a more exciting attacking side in La Real. There are fond memories of what Martin Odegaard accomplished with the Basque club a couple of seasons ago.

Yet Mallorca may provide Kubo with a better opportunity than the others. He is familiar with the club and culture around the club, and they know that he would be their star man. Kubo would get to be the focal point of a LaLiga club, and Mallorca would recognize the importance of allowing the 20-year-old to take on the responsibility of keeping the club in LaLiga’s top flight.

So while Mallorca may seem underwhelming to some fans, Kubo may fit better there than at Real Sociedad, for example, where the situation would be more crowded and maybe less conducive to Kubo being the main man. And on the topic of interested Bundesliga clubs, the different dynamics of that league wouldn’t be nearly as translatable to success at Real Madrid.

Per Cortegana, La Real and Mallorca are willing to pay the total of six million euros to make this loan deal happen. There are specific positives and negatives associated with both clubs, but if Real Madrid are risk-adverse following Kubo’s 2020-2021, then a return to Mallorca may actually be the most sound loan.
