Real Madrid fans are on edge, waiting to hear any sliver of news regarding top transfer target Kylian Mbappe, whose PSG future is even more up in the air than before after Lionel Messi made the switch from Barcelona to Paris.
Mbappe has one year left on his contract, and while PSG have done everything possible to get him stay, whether that was throwing more money at him directly or signing top players to strengthen the sporting project, the superstar has shown no interest in extending. But he hasn’t put any pressure on his hometown club to sell him now.
According to a report from MadridistaReal, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Kylian Mbappe must put this pressure on PSG to sell in order for negotiations between the clubs to begin. Real have sat patiently and waited for their opportunity, careful not to anger PSG.
But now, the ball is in Mbappe’s court. With one public word, he could set in motion a 120-150 million euro this transfer, as opposed to the widely-predicted free switch in 2022.
Will Kylian Mbappe take a step closer to Real Madrid on Monday?
Yes, economically a free transfer is obviously better for Real Madrid, but this team has suffered mightily in the attack without a superstar since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus.
Eden Hazard was supposed to be that guy, but not only is he prone to injury, he is also not as much of a prime goal-scorer.
Mbappe may be ready to make an announcement on Monday after the weekend when PSG face Strasbourg in what should be another cagey Ligue 1 matchup. And since there is a belief he will address his situation in public, there is optimism that he will take a step toward Real Madrid. What else is there to announce so mysteriously?
Madridistas should not get their hopes up, though. Paris is special to Mbappe, and while he wants to break free from the shadow of Messi and Neymar to play for the club of his childhood, it’s hard to see him putting PSG under pressure.
But it is not impossible. It is indeed what must happen in order for PSG to finally relent and call up Real Madrid, perhaps at least somewhat satisfied by the Messi acquisition…and with a thought in the back of their minds that in 2022, they could have Ronaldo, Messi, and Neymar all playing together in the French capital.
The Spanish press has been saying “tic tac”. As if an announcement is near. Perhaps there is one to come, but it truly does seem that Mbappe controls his own fate. How urgent he wants to move is now the No. 1 question, and we cannot even begin to guess the young man’s answer as of yet.
