Federico Valverde is one of the best young midfielders in the world. His quality and potential were clear as day during his break-out 2019-20 campaign. He broke into Real Madrid’s starting XI and we saw a side of his game that we had never seen before. Well now, Real Madrid consider him an asset that is too important to let go of.

That’s one of the reasons why they’re planning on keeping him around for a long, long time. He’s one of the most direct and explosive midfielders in the world and Real Madrid simply cannot afford to let him go.

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are working on extending Federico Valverde’s contract. He says that the club sees the Uruguayan as one of the ‘untouchable players for the present and future.’

The report says that the agreement is close to being complete, and an announcement should happen very soon.

Real Madrid must keep hold of Federico Valverde at all costs

Fede Valverde’s current contract expires in 2025, which is a long time from now. And if Real Madrid are looking to extend his stay with them for even longer, it shows that the club has a lot of faith in him, and this will also give him a message of total confidence. This is a great move from every single angle.

With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos both entering the final years of their respective careers, Valverde will be the immediate as well as long-term future of the club’s midfield. Real Madrid have lost many young players that could’ve played their role in that future alongside Valverde, which is why keeping him around is absolutely crucial. They simply cannot let him go, he is that good, and players like him don’t come for cheap in this market.

It’s great that Valverde is agreeing to the contract even though he’s not exactly a starter at the moment. He knows that his time will come very soon, and he needs to stay patient and take any opportunity that comes his way. Valverde said in April, that he knows that with players like Luka and Kroos, it’s “impossible” to get into the starting XI, but he likes the challenge along with the opportunity to learn from them. This shows that he has the mentality to fight for his position.

That’s something that many players didn’t do, which is why they were sold. Players like Marcos Llorente, Mateo Kovacic, and even Martin Odegaard now (granted, he hasn’t nearly done what the others did, he’s still a talented player) all left the club for greener pastures.

But Valverde knows that he’s good enough for this club. He loves this club, and that’s why this contract extension is best for all parties involved.
