Alvaro Odriozola could get a confidence boost

Since joining Real Madrid from Real Sociedad for 30-40 million euros, Alvaro Odriozola has never established himself as a key player for Los Blancos. He did get one half-season loan move to Bayern Munich where he won the treble and assisted in the Champions League knockout stages, but, at the end of the day, he had the same role with the record Bundesliga champions as he did at Real. Odriozola was nothing more than a seldom-used backup.

All of this sitting around and floating in and out of the lineup has not helped Odriozola’s confidence. He does not look like the same lively, direct attacking threat down the flank that he did at La Real.

Odriozola can find his mojo in Serie A. Fiorentina could use an outlet like Odriozola, and his pace could be game-changing for the Viola. The right back could fit Italian football well, given the league is a lot more free-flowing, especially when the mid-table teams lock horns.

It should be quite easy for Odriozola to establish himself as the regular starter at right back in Firenze. On paper, Fiorentina have a handful of good players, and future superstar striker Dusan Vlahovic is still in the XI. That means Odriozola will have plenty of targets to play off of, and he can find Vlahovic for some nifty assists from crosses.

If all goes well, Odriozola could seize his final opportunity to show to the club’s decision-makers that he is indeed of Real Madrid quality.
