Luka Jovic

The last name on the list is Luka Jovic, the 23-year-old striker of Real Madrid. He might be in his last season as a Real Madrid player, with the club looking to sign Erling Braut Haaland next summer. Jovic’s case at Real Madrid has been an unusual one, and after two years since his signing, one can still wonder if Luka Jovic has ever got a proper chance at Real Madrid to prove himself as I do.

He can be labeled as a panic buy of the 2019 summer window, with the club investing around 60 million euros on him. They did expect a lot from him, but now he’s still the same deputy to Karim Benzema, who is still waiting for a proper opportunity and is used only when Carlo Ancelotti’s men are losing and are in desperate need of goals.

He has a contract until 2025 but will have to be sacrificed in the summer of 2021 if Haaland’s signing is secured, as Mariano looks like an immovable player. But I still believe that Luka Jovic deserves one proper chance at Real Madrid, and it would be unfair to label him as a flop. He has a lot of quality that he exhibits with his international team, and there is still a chance for a turnaround in fate. But at the moment, he can consider himself to be in his third and final season as a Real Madrid player.

Another probable name: Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio’s case is very peculiar because there’s no real clarity on his future at the moment. He has been underwhelming since the 2018/19 season, and he hasn’t been able to reach the high expectations on him, with an ACL injury hurting him a lot. But one can’t say if Asensio will continue or leave Real Madrid. There’s a general notion that a Spanish player at Real Madrid will get another chance, but currently, it is unsure if the club will count on him for another season.

But if there’s something that can be said for sure, it is that Marco Asensio has a contract until 2023. Currently, he hasn’t shown anything on the pitch that can make the club think about his renewal. But there’s a need for the club to make a decision next year because they wouldn’t want to lose him for free and would like to get as much as they can in 2022.
