Real Madrid Transfers: 5 overlooked defenders to target
3. Leicester City CB Wesley Fofana
The situation at right-back is surely worrisome. However, it cannot be ruled out that Real Madrid’s bigger problems are still in their central defense. Eder Militao and David Alaba looked like cementing their place and even made it to our best player’s list for September. However, Carlo Ancelotti decided to make a tweak and have Nacho start at central defense and that decision didn’t go well. With only two pure central defenders and one of them not playing to his standards, there are worry signs all over the place for Los Blancos which is why Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana makes his case so higher up this list.
I know there are better alternates present in Pau Torres or Jules Kounde. But, this is a list of overlooked targets and he was never linked to the Royal White club until he himself admitted that playing for Real Madrid was his dream. Wesley Fofana is a good concentrated defender who puts everything in him out on the pitch. He has been a great asset to Leicester at times last season. His longballs are his specialty and also has an assist by his name in the Europa League last season.
This season, however, a fibula fracture has troubled him much and he hasn’t been able to play a game so far. But he did make his case for a future at a big club last season with his performances for Leicester. He played over 2200 minutes in 28 appearances in the Premier League, 27 of which were starts. His numbers in defensive interventions are brilliant and he especially shines in clearances with an average of 3.3 per game, according to WhoScored.
Real Madrid can benefit out of a ball-playing center back as Fofana. He loves to launch the long balls and is reliable defensively. The only thing to monitor is his recovery from his injury and a whopping 40 million euros valuation by Transfermarkt.
