CENTRAL DEFENCE

Real Madrid have two quality defenders in David Alaba and Eder Militao, as well as a reliable back-up in Nacho Fernandez. However, they do find themselves lacking a fourth option in the event that their first three choices end up having fitness issues. Jesus Vallejo has failed to impress in the past during any of his seasons at Real Madrid and is yet to start a single game for Madrid this season.

The heart of the backline will be put to the test in the second half of the campaign because Real Madrid will be having a busier schedule than they have right now and three competitions to take care of assuming that they do qualify in the Copa del Rey and Champions League, both. Vallejo certainly does not have the pedigree to play against the better opponents and doubts can also be cast on Nacho’s ability to do so on the back of his unsatisfactory displays over the past few weeks.

Antonio Rudiger has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for free next season and if he continues to stall on a contract renewal at Chelsea, the Whites could try and snap upon his services for a nominal amount during the winter. He is a crucial player for the Blues and that may be a factor to consider, but at the same time, they are not a cash-rich club like PSG.
