Real Madrid interested in Pedro Porro…and his teammate Pablo Sarabia??

Yes, that’s right.

According to O Jogo in Portugal, Manchester City loanee Pedro Porro isn’t the only loanee from a Champions League title contender playing for Sporting Lisbon whom Real Madrid is interested in. Los Blancos are also looking at Pablo Sarabia, a former Castilla player born in Madrid, as a potential squad depth option.

Let’s start with Porro. The links to the right back are nothing new, and we know how badly Real need a backup for Dani Carvajal who could eventually succeed him. With Achraf Hakimi almost certainly off the table after his move to PSG, Porro is likely the best option possible at the position.

Now for Sarabia. The man who was subbed in for Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League for his only first-team appearance with Real Madrid is also on PSG’s books. There does not seem to be an option for Sporting to buy, so the fact that PSG are unlikely to sell directly to Madrid amidst the Mbappe situation makes this rumor even more head-scratching.

Why would Real want Sarabia? He was great for Sevilla and solid for PSG as a backup. There are worse players to buy, and Sarabia gets stick that he does not deserve. He is a good, left-footed winger. But how much more does he offer than Marco Asensio? If anything, he offers significantly less than the younger player with more natural talent.

Real need more help on the right wing, but they should look to other options than Sarabia. This rumor is out of left field, and I want to know where O Jogo is getting this information from. Is Sarabia angling for a bidding war? Because surely, he won’t be truly heading back to Paris after his loan in Lisbon ends.
