When the official rebranding from CD Tacón to Real Madrid Femenino was completed in 2020, the club went on a very big signing spree during that summer, bringing on a variety of seasoned campaigners and exciting talents such as Kenti Robles, Teresa Abelleira, Marta Cardona, Ivana Andrés, Maite Oroz, etc to the club.

22 at the time of signing for the club, now 23, Real Madrid Femenino fans can rejoice over the news that midfield sensation Maite Oroz has extended her stay at the club till 2025. The future of midfield is secure, at least for the next three years.

Maite Oroz was signed from Athletic Bilbao in 2020 and has gone on to make 46 appearances for Real Madrid Femenino, playing a crucial role behind Las Blancas finishing 2nd in Primera Iberdrola as she made 28 starts.

Real Madrid Femenino have only one aim: to become one of the best – possibly the best –  clubs in women’s football. They are not far, but bridging the distance from now to becoming the team to beat in European football will take a lot of time and some humungous effort over that amount of time.

Real Madrid Femenino must keep players like Maite Oroz for the long haul

Maite Oroz will be one of the cornerstones of Las Blancas in the coming years. She’s both the present and the future. Extending her contract is a statement of intent from the club. They simply do not want to lose their most talented players, and this is a step in the positive direction that bodes well for the club.

As far as Oroz’s role is concerned, she has transitioned into a more deep-lying playmaker as opposed to her Athletic Bilbao days, where she usually played as an offensive-minded midfielder who loved taking players on. We can expect that to be unchanged. That’s not to say that she has stopped being an aesthetically-pleasing player to watch. She’s got that flair in abundance.

It’s a good time to be a Real Madrid Femenino fan. With recent rumours of the potential signing of Jenni Hermoso in the summer, and the acquisition of the extremely talented Sofie Svava, the news of Oroz’s extension will certainly delight the fans.
