Erling Haaland would be a much more complicated signing than Kylian Mbappe. I think that’s a given, considering Mbappe is really close to joining Real Madrid while there are a host of other clubs involved for Haaland. Haaland won’t be a free transfer, either.

Speaking of clubs involved, there have been a couple of interesting news bits floating around regarding Haaland this week. For one, PSG reportedly asked Haaland to not make a decision until Mbappe makes his own decision.

Now – something more optimistic for Real Madrid – according to Edu Cornago of Diario AS, Barcelona can’t do anything to change the future of Erling Haaland, which essentially means they’re out of the battle, according to the report.

According to the reporter, Barcelona are out of the race, and Erling Haaland’s future lies with Real Madrid

Now, there have obviously been many, many reports about the same transfer saga, and it makes sense. There will be more, but we’ll take everything we can get.

According to the tweet, Haaland’s future is “written”, indicating that he will join Real Madrid next season.

If this is indeed true, then it makes a lot of sense. Obviously, Barcelona are trying to make signings while staying under the salary cap set by La Liga this season. Letting Lionel Messi go didn’t do all that much, and they’re only able to sign players on elongated contracts.

Adding Erling Haaland’s potentially huge contract into the mix would definitely shake things up. Of course, they’ll probably let Ousmane Dembele go when his contract expires, and they’re trying to make other sales as soon as possible, but even then, Haaland would require a massive package, and getting him into the team would definitely need additional sales, which might tinker with the squad’s depth for next season.

As for Real Madrid, the problem should only stay until Karim Benzema feels like it’s the right time to leave or to take a backseat, considering he is 34 years old now. After that, it should be relatively easier to decide who the preferred trio is, and if Mbappe and Haaland both join Real, we’re looking at half a decade of dominance, at the very least. Of course, it remains to be seen if they actually do sign Haaland, considering there’s a lot of interest from Manchester City as well.
