I think we’ve all understood that Real Madrid need to sign some forwards soon. Their attack is too heavily reliant on just two players, and there isn’t really anyone that makes an impact coming off the bench, either.

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left, Real’s had a gaping hole in the offense which has partly been filled by Karim Benzema and now Vinicius Junior, but it’s obvious that Real Madrid need more players to truly compete with the absolute best of the lot.

They’re already looking to sign Kylian Mbappe as a free agent in the summer, and they’ve been trying to get Erling Haaland as well.

According to a report from Sport1, the club is also interested in signing Serge Gnabry in 2023, when he becomes a free agent.

Serge Gnabry is a fantastic plan B if Real Madrid fail to sign Erling Haaland

According to the report, Bayern Munich and Serge Gnabry haven’t been able to agree to a contract extension so far. The negotiations have been stalled for now, with more meetings set to happen sometime in the future. Although Gnabry definitely is happy at Bayern, there are still things that need to be dealt with.

He reportedly wants to earn around 15 million euros, the same as Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman. He’s not a starter if every single person in the squad is fit, which makes the whole situation a bit tricky.

So Real Madrid are just waiting to see how the player’s negotiations go with Bayern. Here’s the thing, though, there is absolutely no way Real Madrid would go for Serge Gnabry if they’re able to sign both Mbappe and Haaland. It wouldn’t make sense considering the club already has Vinicius Jr in their ranks.

Gnabry wouldn’t want to sign for Real Madrid either, if he’s not a guaranteed starter. However, it would definitely be an option to consider if the club isn’t able to land Haaland next summer, which is possible even though the club is reportedly Haaland’s favored destination. So, an attacking trio of Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe and Serge Gnabry would still be very, very good. It’ll be a great plan B if Haaland doesn’t sign for Madrid, and it’s good that the club already has its attention on the German.

There’s a long time before any of the Gnabry stuff – he may even sign a contract with Bayern extension. It may not end up mattering, but for Real Madrid alone, everything rests on what happens during the next transfer window.
