And we end with a third forward who should be moved in the summer 2022 transfer window.

Marco Asensio is easily the most productive of these three players, as he is the team’s third-leading goal-scorer in LaLiga with 8 goals. However, he has zero assists and does nothing besides score the occasional longshot or tap-in.

Madridistas appreciate and acknowledge Asensio’s shooting ability, but they are frustrated with how little he offers elsewhere. Asensio nearly cost this team the Champions League Round of 16 draw, and it is no coincidence that the team came back without him on the pitch.

He is one of those players who makes those around him look worse due to his poor work-rate, non-existent dribbling, comical decision-making, and one-dimensional play. He is no Real Madrid winger, and it is time to stop pretending that he is.

But Asensio can help teams in Serie A and the Premier League where there is more space to shoot and less of a physical demand to get up and down the pitch and fight. There will be options, such as Tottenham and Arsenal.

Real Madrid have to make a decision on Asensio soon, as it is time to renew or sell. Los Blancos should be leaning in the latter direction after that Champions League second leg, given how poorly Asensio played in the first half. A swap could help Real get a prospect in exchange for Asensio, who could get the money and role he wants elsewhere. Madrid must move on and can use Asensio to find depth at a different position, especially if Takefusa Kubo and/or Brahim Diaz can occupy first-team spots in 2022/23.
