Flop: RW Rodrygo Goes

Rodrygo Goes’s consistency has been a big issue for Real Madrid. The young winger seems to take a step back after a streak of good performances. The game against Mallorca was his response to the due quota of an underwhelming performance after two great games against PSG and Real Sociedad. There have never been any complaints about the 21-year-old’s work rate. But, his work against Mallorca wasn’t effective.

He carried very little threat going forward and ended up drawing a nasty foul. He had to be carried away from the pitch and the injury comes at the worst time. He had just overtaken Marco Asensio in the pecking order and important games are knocking on the door. He is Real Madrid’s best option on the right wing and to move into the business end without the Brazilian can be disastrous for Real Madrid. I hope he is fine and can join the action back soon.

Star: LW Vinicius Junior

While one Brazilian winger found it difficult to capitalize on his opportunity, the other Brazilian winger continued his exploits with the ball for Real Madrid in a similar fashion as he has done so far in the season. Vinicius Junior has been a little dry in the goals department lately with the last one coming against Alaves in a 3-0 home win. He added another to his tally, thanks to some smart combination play from Karim Benzema. He now has 14 goals in the league, second to Karim Benzema.

Vini Jr. was involved again in the second goal as his pass released Benzema on the left-hand side. Benz held his run and squared it to Vini who had to take a foul and settle for the resulting penalty that Benzema dispatched perfectly. Despite facing racist abuse from Mallorca fans, Vini once again proved why he is the protagonist of this new Real Madrid team. His awareness and threat on the ball once again constituted a masterclass.
