CM Toni Kroos

The world-class Toni Kroos was in fine form against Mallorca, and he looks healthy and ready for El Clasico, which is great news for Real Madrid. Kroos is the most important counterweight to Barcelona controlling this game, and he always has great battles with the likes of Sergio Busquets in the middle of the park when it comes to dictating the flow of the game.

In the first LaLiga Clasico of 2021/22, Kroos dominated proceedings and got the better of Barça’s midfield. However, the opposition is much more formidable now and very, very well-coached under Xavi. Consider this weekend’s match a challenge for the former World Cup winner.

DM Casemiro

Casemiro was solid enough against Mallorca after serving a Champions League suspension vs. PSG. He was not missed against the Parisians, though his return is a welcome one against a Barcelona side that will challenge Real’s transition defending.

As usual, ball security will be key for Casemiro. Expect Barcelona to press aggressively. Xavi knows Madrid extremely well, and he will come up with a good plan to suffocate the opposition’s midfield. That has been key to any rival getting a good result against Madrid, whether that is Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, or PSG in recent times. Xavi will view Casemiro as the weakest link on the ball.

CM Luka Modric

Luka Modric played out of his mind against PSG in the recent Champions League triumph, reminding the world why he is one of the very best in the world. The Croatian magician has been a standout in many past Clasicos, especially the first win of the 2020/21 season. His performances sometimes get overshadowed, such as against PSG when Karim Benzema deservingly received headlines for a hat-trick. But he tends to be one of the Man of the Match candidates whenever Real shine in a big game. Look no further than what he did in the last Derbi.
