Real Madrid fans are excited about the prospect of both Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger joining the club in the summer 2022 transfer window as free agents. These are two proven winners at the highest level of football and are world-class at their positions, with Mbappe standing out as one of the two best players in the world this season.
But still, Madridistas want more. They specifically want more help in the midfield, with one name standing out as the only possible replacement for Casemiro in the next few years.
Aurelien Tchouameni was on Real’s radar in 2020, but Los Blancos did not want to making signings that summer. Last year, they snagged Eduardo Camavinga on a 30 million euro transfer that continues to look like an even bigger bargain.
Madridistas know they have two great midfielders of the future in Fede Valverde and Camavinga, who are already top-class in the present. But this fanbase understands the importance of covering all the bases and not letting rare talents slip through the cracks.
Aurelien Tchouameni scored two goals with seven interceptions vs. Lille
Tchouameni is that rare talent. If there were any doubts about him being worth the sky-high price tag from Monaco, which could always be reduced due to the player’s interest, he destroyed them with a big-game performance on Friday night in Ligue 1 against struggling Lille.
The 22-year-old Frenchman was on another level. He scored both of the team’s goals in the win, with both being delightful, difficult shots. The first with his left foot from the edge of the box, perfectly-placed, and the second a rocket from WELL outside the box. A world-class hit worthy of the goal of the week.
Those two goals were beautiful and show that Tchouameni has more to his game than just the defending that makes Real Madrid fans want him so badly at the Bernabeu as Casemiro’s future replacement as the 6.
That said, the defending is what Madridistas care about the most in terms of his fit. In addition to those two goals, Tchouameni showed elite defending with a jaw-dropping seven interceptions, which is an even rarer feat than a brace! As if that were not enough, he had four aerial duels won (an underrated area of need for Real, by the way) and two tackles.
Going back to the offensive side of his game, Tchouameni had two dribbles completed and two fouls drawn with six of eight long balls completed, helping out Monaco’s attack in a variety of ways.

It was a well-rounded, masterclass of a midfield performance from Tchouameni, who is clearly showing that he is the best possible midfield target for Real Madrid. If we assume Kylian Mbappe is already signed and sealed as so many Spanish reporters have indicated, then Tchouameni is the new priority, no doubt.
