Real Madrid have completed the signings of Aurelién Tchouaméni from AS Monaco for around 80 million euros and Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea on a free transfer, so steps to bolster the squad are well underway. After winning the UEFA Champions League, the aim is clear: to improve on an already fantastic squad
But while transfers will be the talk of the town as the transfer window opens, Real Madrid are preparing the announcement of a contract extension of one of its legends, Luka Modric.
The 36-year-old’s contract expires on 30th June 2022, but there were absolutely no doubts that the club would offer the Croatian another year at the Santiago Bernabéu. Modric is coming off of one of his best seasons as a footballer, and was vital in Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League successes.
Real Madrid are planning to announce Luka Modric’s contract extension on Wednesday
According to Fabrizio Romano, the club has decided to announce Modric’s extension at the Bernabéu tomorrow, on Wednesday, 8th June. Romano also stated that the new deal has been already signed, which was done after the Champions League final on 28th May. The negotiations were “more than fast”, he mentions. No surprises there as the club and the player have wanted the same thing: continuing this beautiful relationship for another year.
Modric deserves a grand extension ceremony. The central midfielder has been a brilliant servant of this club, and has played his heart out every time he has put on the famous white shirt.
Modric will turn 37 in September, but is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down just yet. Given that he just had one of his best seasons at 36, it makes one wonder just how much more gas is left in his tank. At this rank, he can easily go on at the top level for at least two more seasons.
