3 things Real Madrid fans must know about Aurelien Tchouameni
By Ben Sundock
Real Madrid’s midfield trio is set for the next decade!
After Casemiro, Luke Modric, and Toni Kroos – arguably the greatest midfield trident Real Madrid has ever had – move on, the club has Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and now Aurelien Tchouameni ready and waiting to take over.
Per the always reliable Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid will secure Tchouameni’s signature for an estimated €80 million, plus add-ons that could post the total closer to €100 million with an announcement coming as early as Wednesday.
Tchouameni chose Real Madrid over PSG and Liverpool
The 22-year-old was clear with his agent and AS Monaco: if he was to be sold, it had to be to Real Madrid.
Though Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool made daring pushes for the promising midfielder, Tchouameni did not waver on his desired landing spot (unlike some). “Tchouaméni only wanted Real,” Romano reported.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp met with Tchouameni recently to discuss a move. He was swiftly turned away.
PSG was willing to offer more for the French international with Kylian Mbappe taking part in the meetings, but still, Tchouameni knew he wanted Real Madrid and only Real Madrid.
The newcomer is already oozing Madrismo!
Aurelien Tchouameni ranks in the top 15% of his peers
So is the new signing worth the huge price? Yes!
He is a statistician’s dream player in every sense.
Having three players with the work rate and stamina of Camavinga, Tchouameni, and Valverde is unheard of! If there was one piece that was missing from the midfield trident, it was Tchouameni.
He provides that Casemiro effect on defense and that Modric/Kroos effect in the attacking third. He has the same awareness and skill as Camavinga through the middle of the park, too!
Tchouameni’s rise at Monaco resembles that of Mbappe
Between 2015 and 2017, Mbappe made 60 appearances for AS Monaco after rising through the ranks of the youth academy and development team.
After arriving from Bordeaux – where he played for two seasons – in January 2020, Tchouameni made 95 appearances for Monaco.
Mbappe used a huge 2016/2017 campaign in both Ligue 1 and in the Champions League to announce himself as a star of the future. Tchouameni might not have been nearly as emphatic in announcing himself to the footballing world in 2021/2022, but he has done well nonetheless!

It’s not fair to compare Mbappe and Tchouameni as the same player, but the trajectory of their respective careers for both club and country is drastically similar.
It’s also ironic Real Madrid looked to Tchouameni right after failing to attract Mbappe!
