Should Real Madrid fans be worried about Vinicius Jr.’s contract length?
Vinicius Jr was Real Madrid’s second-best attacker in the 2021/22 season, and he became the lethal winger everyone wanted to see. He was instrumental in Real Madrid’s successful LaLiga campaign and capped off his wonderful season by scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final against Liverpool.
He deserves to be rewarded for such an incredible season, and the best reward he can get is a contract extension with an improved salary. The Brazilian is amongst the best footballers on the planet, but he is one of the lowest earners at the club. The club recognised the need to renew his contract, and renewal was on the cards.
There have been rumours of an extension throughout the season, and now we have GOAL’s Jorge C Picon reporting that the renewal is almost 95% done. But there seems to be a minor twist in the tale.
Picon has mentioned that the club wanted him to extend till 2028, but the player requested a shorter extension. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the same, with the Italian reporting that Vini’s new salary would be around 10 million euros a year, and would have a release clause of 1 billion euros, in his new contract until 2026.
The club seem to have honoured his request, but his request did worry some of the fans on social media.
There is no reason for the fans to worry about Vinicius Jr.’s future at Real Madrid
The fact that Vini requested a shorter renewal might have forced the fans into thinking that Vini might want to leave Real Madrid in the near future, but that shouldn’t be the case. The 21-year-old might just be thinking that it will be easier for him to ask for a better salary in the future if he signs a short-term contract, something that couldn’t be possible if he signs a long-term contract.
Vini just had a fantastic season, and he is only going to become better from here. He is on his way to becoming a footballing superstar, and many people at the club see him as a future Ballon d’Or winner. He would obviously want to earn more when he becomes a bigger player and become the face of the club in the future.
Keeping all these factors in mind, the Brazilian might have asked for a shorter contract, so that it becomes easier for him to renegotiate with the club in the future.

And one shouldn’t have any doubts about Vini’s future or his Madridismo. The Brazilian himself has said that he wants to play at Real Madrid for many more years and wants to make history at the club. He is a Madridista and a bigger one than most of us.
