Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo is still a Madridista through and through

Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid legend. I don’t think there’s anyone that’ll disagree with me. He’s also Real Madrid’s greatest ever footballer. The man scored 450 goals in just 438 games, it’s still astounding to even think about. I don’t know how he did it.

I think it’s fair to say that Ronaldo’s career has been on a slightly downward spiral since leaving Real Madrid. He hasn’t tasted the same success at Juventus, and even less so at Manchester United, and now, it is confirmed that Ronaldo wants to leave United this summer.

It’s like, I don’t blame him. Ronaldo, from what I saw, tried his best to carry United to Champions League football, but the other players didn’t give in, and Ronaldo’s 24 goals weren’t enough for the club to play in Europe’s best competition.

The Portuguese wants ambition, and even though I don’t really see Ronaldo joining Real Madrid, mainly because of Vinicius Jr. literally taking the Ronaldo route to an even better season, there is something reported by Gianluca DiMarzio that just made me realise how he’s still a Madrid guy at heart. DiMarzio, speaking to Wettfreunde, said this:

I personally never saw any rumors linking Ronaldo to Barcelona or Atletico, but it is very, very nice to see that he still has respect for the club where he had his most successful years as a footballer, and it clearly shows that even in his final years, when there are not many clubs that would take him on, he’s still putting his love and respect for Real Madrid at a special place in his heart.

It’s not totally uncommon for players to move to rival clubs, but for Ronaldo, it would’ve caused a huge “betrayal” narrative, and I think even Ronaldo gets that, which is why he’d never join Barcelona.

I mean, keep that aside. He wouldn’t even look good in a Barca jersey. It just wouldn’t feel right, and I am sure every party involved in this knows that, which is why it will just never happen. No way.
