Real Madrid’s transfer activity since signing Aurelien Tchouameni has been minimal, to say the least. The club hasn’t really done anything of note except for the sale of Luka Jovic, which was on a free transfer. Apart from that, the club is looking to sell multiple players, but there aren’t many offers that have come their way as of now.

But, it’s clear that the squad is in desperate need of a forward. It doesn’t really have to be a striker, especially a young one, considering how the club currently boasts the best striker in the world in Karim Benzema, but a player like Edin Dzeko could work, but there is no interest from the club.

They do, however, have a criteria set for any potential striker signing. According to Anton Meana, Real Madrid might sign a striker if Mayoral and Asensio were to leave the club. Moreover, the criteria they have set for a potential signing is a young striker, who is cheap and is a good player off the bench.

Real Madrid signing a young striker would halt the player’s development for at least two years

Here’s what I think: Real Madrid do need a forward, but I don’t think they need a striker. Obviously, if, God forbid, Benzema gets injured long term, they’ll probably be in the market for one, but for minor injuries and whenever he is being rested, I think Real should be fine for another season or two.

Eden Hazard is being tested out as a potential false 9 option at Real this season, and if that works out well, then I don’t think they’re going to go for a young striker for at least a couple of years. If not him, then we might see Rodrygo there. If not him, then we might even see Juanmi Latasa for a few games.

The point is, that getting a young striker who is hardly going to play is not the right move for the player’s development. Being an understudy to the best player in the world is no easy job, and the player would have to suffer a lot before making a breakthrough, and even that is not guaranteed.

But I guess the cheap price would make that player – if one exists – a good option to have, a low-risk-high-reward kind of situation. But, young players need to play as much as possible, and I’d rather see a seasoned veteran join forces with Benzema for a season or two, and after that, Real can look at striker options for the future.
