Second Step: Bring in Experience

Real Madrid currently has 26 players in the main squad, of which Alvaro Odriozola, Reiner Jesus and Borja Mayoral are yet to be registered. The squad is almost full, with a mix of young and experienced players. But it seems that Carlo Ancelotti does not trust many of his young players and almost no one from Real Madrid Castilla.

If Juanmi Latasa, who is probably the only player the club can trust as a backup to Karim Benzema, is promoted, he will see a lack of playtime which will affect the youngster’s overall growth. With Borja Mayoral, Mariano Diaz and Eden Hazard not appropriate for the striker role at the club, a signing is a must.

So who should be? Not a youngster. If I am being very honest, it is an absolute mistake to sign a youngster at the Striker position, especially after the cases of Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic. He will see a lack of playtime which will hamper his overall growth. Also, he definitely won’t guarantee 10-15 goals with so little time.

With inflation in the market, it will further be a problem in monetary terms. The €100m for Aurielen Tchouameni tells you just how much you have to lay for a young talent these days. Real Madrid will not look to spend big on another player in the same transfer window.

In my opinion, Real Madrid should look for someone with experience. Remember Raul De Tomas? The former Real Madrid man has done a great job at Espanol. Given his age and quality, he will not come for more than €10 – 15m. The experience that he brings will be good for the team and he will not only accept the backup role but will also guarantee goals.

Another alternative to this approach is a loan move. Timo Werner is currently one of the few players who is looking for a way out. The German is very quick, and he is great when it comes to pressing the opposition. He can use his pace to create holes in the opposition’s defence to stretch it enough that players like Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde exploit the empty spaces.

But he won’t come cheap. Plus, he is not Real Madrid quality. He can be treated as a temporary solution to the backup issue, but not a long-term replacement.

Now, we also have Bernardo Silva as an option. As per reports, the Portuguese has been offered to both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona but it seems like Real Madrid is not interested in him, even though they should be.

Silva is in his prime years and is a very great player. He thrived under Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti can get a lot out of him too. The 27-year-old is a great player and is quite versatile. Naturally a right winger, Bernardo Silva can play as a False 9 or as a Central Midfielder. He can come to great use and with his experience, he can teach a thing or two to youngsters like Rodrygo Goes, Federico Valverde and Peter Gonzalez.

I believe an ideal transfer window would be to make a move for either of Timo Werner and Raul De Thomas for now and sign Bernardo Silva in the winter Transfer Window because he will cost somewhat around €80 million.

To sum it up, one or two signings to upgrade the squad in the world cup season will be good enough for Real Madrid to aim at all the available silverware and make a strong case for winning the UEFA Champions League as the defending champions.
