Versatility And Experience

These are the two things that Real Madrid needs the most at the moment. Experience at every position for its youngsters to learn and for the team to have a good balance between youngsters and experienced players.

Now, what is Real Madrid missing the most? A good backup to Karim Benzema and a great right winger. Well, Bernardo Silva can offer much more than that. Naturally a right winger, the Portuguese forward has played almost the entire last season as a False 9 for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

That’s essentially what you need Silva to do when Benzema is not around; Drifting wide when there is space, centrally positioned when the midfielders need support and most of all, the ability to score goals from close as well as long range. This is something Bernardo Silva can offer to Real Madrid and in a more advanced way than what Marco Asensio or Eden Hazard can.

From the right wing, Silva can put dangerous crosses into the box for Karim Benzema to head into the goal. He can make quick sprints to beat the defenders and drop between them to control the long passes Toni Kroos attempts. Not to forget, his ability to shoot powerful shots from distance can come in very handy to Real Madrid.

Lastly, Silva can play as a midfielder whenever required. Now, this is not something Real Madrid need at all provided their depth in midfield- a mix of youngsters and experienced players, but it is like frosting on the cake. His holdup play is brilliant, and to be honest, can be a great short-term replacement for the aged Toni Kroos.

Just like the German, Bernardo Silva too can play like a deep-lying playmaker. He loves to combine with his teammates, carry the ball forward and scan the field for open areas. At Real Madrid, he can sometimes play as a number 10 too, something Carlo Ancelotti might be inclined to try with Casemiro and Aurelien Tchouameni as the double pivot.

Now, it will be interesting to see what activity Real Madrid does in the transfer window but what I can say is that Real Madrid should at least think about Bernardo Silva once before making a move for a young attacker.
