One midfield combination that could bring Real Madrid a lot of success

Real Madrid’s midfield is sensational. Like, if I were a supporter of any other club, I’d be so envious of the kind of midfield they boast. The possibilities are endless, there are so many combinations that Carlo Ancelotti can try, and with the quality of midfielders the club has, there is a high possibility that most of those combinations would turn out to be fruitful.

But, there is one trio that I would love for Ancelotti to try, and I think that could be the most successful one for this season.

The trio I am talking about is Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni. Yes, I know they haven’t even played a minute of football together, but in theory, there’s a lot of potential here.

Tchouameni starting with Modric and Kroos would bring Real Madrid so much control

Now, Tchouameni takes up the Casemiro role. Of course, what Casemiro brings, only he can bring, he’s just incredible defensively. But, Tchouameni did lead his league in tackles and interceptions for two straight seasons, so I am pretty sure that even though the Frenchman won’t be as good as Casemiro, he’d still be very, very good.

His presence in the back would allow Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to do their thing without being too worried about other duties. I think Modric would have to take up some defensive work, but at the end of the day, there’s a reason why Tchouameni cost Real Madrid 80 million. He’ll defend just fine. If the two games are anything to go by, his defensive IQ is elite already.

But, what I am more excited about is when the team actually has the ball. If Tchouameni is playing in place of Casemiro, then there’s an aura of press resistance that the club didn’t have before just behind the two midfielders. Casemiro is not the greatest player on the ball, and Tchouameni has shown time and time again that he is a great passer, and can play through the press rather easily.

Not having that liability in the midfield would help the team massively. Of course, when Casemiro had the ball, it was used as a pressing trigger very often, now, with Tchouameni taking his place, there will be no trigger. Real Madrid would function much better as a team with the ball if Tchouameni is on the pitch.

I can say that whatever they lose when they drop Casemiro’s defensive capabilities, they gain when they add Tchouameni’s abilities on the ball. And, Tchouameni, as I said, is a great defender as well, so the team should be sorted.

It’s just such a great combination, I really want to see more of it. Hopefully, Ancelotti goes with it more and more. I love the sheer possibilities that we have because of Tchouameni’s signing. Hopefully, it works as well on the pitch as it does in theory.
