Real Madrid were horrible against Girona on Friday night in La Liga, and after this 1-1 draw to drop even more points in the league title race with eternal rivals, Barcelona can pretty much kiss this trophy goodbye. And if they play anywhere near as badly as this against Bayern Munich, they can wave farewell to the Champions League, too.
Here were three Real Madrid stars who burned their team the most in this horrendous performance at the Santiago Bernabeu.
CM Eduardo Camavinga
Look, if Eduardo Camavinga keeps playing this badly, then Real Madrid will have no choice but to sell him, regardless of whether or not he wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for a few more years. Cama was horrendous against Girona, making all the same mistakes with no attention to detail and effort in all the wrong places defensively.
Positionally and in his understanding of the game and where to be, Camavinga just might be the worst No. 6 in the entire Spanish top flight. How else do you explain the lack of awareness or effort on Thomas Lemar's goal? Inexcusable.
RB Dani Carvajal
The bar has been set so low at Real Madrid these days that you may find a few Madridistas praising Dani Carvajal and proclaiming that their beloved bulldog is back. No, he is not back. He has deserted into the forest, searching for the bones that have already decomposed somewhere beneath the earth's surface. Carvajal is toast. He cannot get forward, he cannot get back. Only Girona can somehow make him passable, and, even then, he is useless at supporting the attack.
CF Kylian Mbappe
The worst of the worst. Anyone who fails to admit that Real Madrid are a decisively worse team with Kylian Mbappe is deluding themselves. We have already seen the evidence this season against Manchester City. Real Madrid are a cohesive TEAM without Mbappe. With him, they are a one man fantasy camp, with a singular, self obsessed and overrated superstar doing his best to try and make a team entirely dependent on him scoring to win. That is his goal. He does not want Real Madrid to win. He wants Real Madrid to win ONLY because of him and nobody else.
It is almost a level of self sabotage watching his unwllingness to defend, his positional indiscipline of always having to have the ball regardless of where the stirker should be, and his desire to shoot at all costs even if two players are better positioned.
