Real Madrid, despite signing four brilliant players in the transfer window, should not rest.

They have a lot to work on still, in terms of departures as well as a couple of new players that new manager Xabi Alonso could want as he starts his first La Liga campaign as Real Madrid coach.

They need to sell a few players that may be surplus to requirements, but they also need a couple of positions further reinforced.

There is a stat that is going around X and other social media platforms, however, and it is slightly worrying for the fans that want new players to be signed.

Apparently, Real Madrid have signed players in August in just two of their last 10 summer transfer windows.

Real Madrid need to break this weird, unwritten rule

Since 2015, there have only been two players who have signed for the club in the last month of the transfer window in the summer, which is a shocking stat.

Those two players are Thibaut Courtois and Eduardo Camavinga. Courtois was signed late because of Chelsea's reluctance to sell at first. And then Camavinga was a last minute signing to make up for not signing Kylian Mbappe in that same summer - as the original plan was to sign Camavinga as a free agent in the following year.

However, this is weird. It really is. Real Madrid only sign their players in the first couple of months of the transfer window, and then, I guess they just focus on outgoings.

If they are planning on doing the same this summer, I think they need to change their ways. Real Madrid badly need a central defender before the end of the transfer window. They need one. A good one.

They will obviously need to sell players before that, but that should be their priority. So, unless they want to suddenly sign a central defender in the next 24-36 hours, Real Madrid's weird streak of rarely signing players in August will need to break.
