AC Milan hope to beat Real Madrid to intelligent €41m transfer

AC Milan has joined a transfer race with Real Madrid. They would like to sign an intelligent 17-year-old with a €41m release clause.

As they have not won the Serie A title since the 2021-22 season, AC Milan hope to build a strong foundation to assert their Italian dominance again. Of course, it is a club well connected to current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, as he both played and managed there.

So, AC Milan is a club which still clearly has the infamous Carlo Ancelotti imprint. This is because the Italians are now interested in signing a Real Madrid transfer target, which could make for an intriguing battle.

According to the print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Milan Reports), AC Milan have now become interested in signing Franco Mastantuono of River Plate.

Franco Mastantuono is a 17-year-old sensation who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since he first broke through. He currently has a €41m release clause, which rises to €45m in the final days of each transfer window.

Real Madrid are known to be interested in Mastantuono. In fact, there were even some rumours that a deal had been struck by Los Blancos. However, these rumours turned out to be false, despite their known interest.

Mastantuono is still very young. Therefore, his best position remains to be seen. Early signs suggest he is a number 10, playing just behind the striker. He also has the capability to play out wide.

There is an immediate question mark about whether Real Madrid to sign any more players in these positions. To this, the answer is a simple "why not?"

Luka Modric is ageing and is nearing retirement age. Therefore, Real Madrid are seeking successors for his position. It is way too early to make comparisons but Franco Mastantuono has shown the potential to play in a similar style to Modric.
