Both wings at Real Madrid have been experiencing problems. Vinicius Jr has not been at his best for some time, and Rodrygo is a shadow of his former self.

The signing of Franco Mastantuono is expected to improve the situation somewhat.

But the name that hardly comes up in discussions about the wings, despite having a considerable impact from the position, is Brahim Diaz, the winger who has earned a good reputation at the club and among the fans.

Ace journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Brahim Diaz is set to put pen to paper and sign his new contract at Real Madrid.

There were some rumours in January about Liverpool having shortlisted Brahim to improve their attack but nothing substantial stemmed from that.

Romano reports that the agreement is complete and only the formal signature and seal are pending.

Brahim Diaz is the best super-sub Real Madrid have

Brahim has never had a guaranteed starting position handed to him by Carlo Ancelotti. Nor is Xabi Alonso expected to give him that. His role under the new manager is likely to remain similar, but it will be special, and probably more impactful.

It is a fact that it is almost impossible for Brahim to become a regular starter, I mean, why would Madrid sign Mastantuono then?

Anyway, Brahim’s skills are better placed and utilized as an impact substitute who brings fresh legs to the wing off the bench and flips the game on its head. His engagement with the midfield and his presence in tight spaces are worthy of applause, and Madrid have acknowledged that with this extension.

Brahim does not score a lot of goals, but he contributes greatly in terms of creativity. He can also play as an attacking midfielder, though there is hardly any room for him to find minutes there.

With Rodrygo’s future increasingly uncertain and complicated, on whom Madrid have also put a hefty price tag, this renewal was crucial for Madrid to arrange. Mastantuono might become the starter instantly, but he will need a solid backup, and Brahim is a damn good one.
