Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has been the talk of the town again after being a late ommission from the Clasico squad. He did not even travel with his teammates to face the music in a battle with Barcelona they were always destined to lose, though he did take the time to post an almost sardonic "Hala Madrid" on Instagram the moment Real went down 2-0 in the match - words of "encouragement" he never bothered to give during the other times Real were winning without him.
Mbappe has become increasingly pointed at as the problem, especially by the more seasoned Madridistas. It has gotten to the point where rumors are circulating that Mbappe is afraid to play in front of the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu because of the boos, which is a stance unthinkable to his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid supporters are also miffed that Mbappe seems to be picking and choosing when he is playing, and they have cast doubt on the timeline of his hamstring injury. It was supposedly season ending, then he was back in training after cameras caught him on vacation. And then when word got out he would not be starting El Clasico, he pulled up injured again. Now he is back for Oviedo.
Few are buying what Alvaro Arbeloa is selling
Alvaro Arbeloa seemed to be taking off the kid gloves a week ago when he said at a press conference openly that players not running are behind the losses for Real Madrid. Before the Oviedo fixture, a reporter straight up asked if he thinks Mbappe is giving his 100 percent.
The Real Madrid manager responded to that question, via Madrid Xtra, “Did Mbappé give his 100%? Of course, I couldn’t think otherwise. This club is a blessing for all of us. We know what it’s like when you’re not at Real Madrid, and my players need to be aware of this blessing. They will be remembered for the rest of their lives for having played for Madrid. It leaves a big mark on you, it gives you so much.”
Predictably, Real Madrid fans have not taken kindly to that answer, and they remain accusing Alvaro Arbeloa of towing the company line, even as it is obvious he will be replace in a few short weeks (or even days) for the legendary Jose Mourinho.
Nobody is buying that Kylian Mbappe is giving everything to Real Madrid when he could not even bother traveling with his teammates to El Clasico and statistically is one of the worst five players in world football at running for the team. Arbeloa had a chance to set the table for Mourinho, but he decided to go down with a whimper, hiding himself in nonsensical coach speak.
