Real Madrid have faced injury problems all season. Whenever they gain some sort of continuity, they then lose a player or two to injury and they have to start from scratch once again.

Another one has bitten the dust, as Real Madrid's left-back Ferland Mendy got injured during the round-of-16 tie against Atletico on Wednesday, and now is set for a spell on the sidelines.

This is the statement that the club have put out for his injury: "Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the hamstring of his left leg. The outcome is pending.”

Ferland Mendy could play against Arsenal, although it is not confirmed

According to Arancha Rodriguez from COPE, he is out for the next three to four weeks. He will, at the very least, miss the matches against Villarreal, Leganes, Real Sociedad and Valencia. He could play against Arsenal, but it is not written in the stars.

If he is nearing fitness by the time Real Madrid travel to Arsenal, it will sort of depend on what happens with Fran Garcia. If Garcia is playing well, Real Madrid may not want to risk Mendy and instead will try to get him fully fit for the second leg.

However, if the Spanish left-back is having a rough moment, Real Madrid may want to get Mendy back in time, especially as English winger Bukayo Saka could also play in that game. It is not confirmed whether he plays, but it remains to be seen what happens with this situation.

If he is fully fit by the time Real Madrid have to take the flight to London, Carlo Ancelotti will definitely look to start him because of how much he trusts the French full-back. Even though Mendy has not had the best of seasons, he is still Real Madrid's first-choice left-back, so they will have to figure out a way to get him to start.
