Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid match preview

After two promising results, can Real Madrid claim their first victory of this Champions League campaign? So far, Pau Quesada's team have picked up a pair of 1-1 draws. First, Felicia Schröder broke the deadlock inside two minutes in Valdebebas, only for PSG to convert a late penalty.

Then, Linda Caicedo was the scorer as las Merengues led at Joie Stadium, but again they were held to a stalemate, this time by WSL champions Manchester City. Both are respectable points for las Blancas, but now they need victories to ensure they reach the knockout stages.

Well, Real Madrid's fixtures do not get much easier. After this, they will hosts Paris FC and Inter Milan, before travelling to Roma on the final matchday. Thus, every point is precious, so will they leave Bavaria with all three?

As for Bayern Munich, having reached last season's Champions League semi-finals, they are looking to go one better this time round. Well, so far, José Barcala's team are well-placed, collecting four points after two league phase games.

The Frauen-Bundesliga champions raced into a 2-0 lead when Manchester City visited Germany, only to concede four minutes from time as the points were shared. Eight nights later, Bayern scored three times in the final quarter of an hour as they eventually beat Benfica 3-0 at Estádio da Luz; Klara Bühl, Pernille Harder and then Franziska Kett the scorers in Lisbon.

Bayern have never lost a home match in the Champions League group stage of league phase, winning 12 out of 16, a record they'll be confident of extending on Wednesday night. Nevertheless, this clash at Sportpark Unterhaching might just be too close to call.

Bayern Munich team news

Pernille Harder's goal against Benfica was her 50th in the Women's Champions League, currently third on the all-time list, one behind Anja Mittag but still 19 adrift Ada Hegerberg.

She'll be joined in attack by this season's top-scorer Klara Bühl, who took her tally to nine for the campaign against RB Leipzig on Friday.

Real Madrid team news

Pau Quesada's team came from 2-0 down to beat Tenerife on Saturday, with both Lineth Beerensteyn and Signe Bruun scoring off the bench, so will the pair start this time? Beerensteyn, Sara Däbritz and Arianna Caruso will all be reunited with their former club.
