Real Madrid beat Marseille 2-1 in a very close but entertaining contest at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
Xabi Alonso got his first Champions League win as a Real Madrid manager, and it went anything but calmly.
Two penalties from Kylian Mbappé - who seems to have found a brand new partner in crime - just about did the job against a very energeetic and risk taking Marseille side, who went ahead after a brilliant move.
However, Real Madrid are now one from one in the Champions League, and hopefully, they have begun as they mean to go on.
Here are the best and worst players from the match.
Best: Aurélien Tchouaméni
Mbappé will (rightfully) take home the headlines, but Aurélien Tchouaméni was once again brilliant for the record winners on Tuesday night. His mammoth five interceptions should be enough to tell you just how important the player was.
However, if that is not enough, he also had three key passes, 66 touches, 56 passes with a completion rate of 91%, and an incredible long ranger that almost found the back of the net.
Let's put the stats aside, though. Tchouaméni made Real Madrid tick. He was important in so many press evasions, so many moves started through him and ended because of him.
On the other hand, Tchouaméni was also crucial in slowing the tempo down after Real Madrid's second goal, and helped the team see the game off with a number of great challenges.
Tchouaméni has been Real Madrid's most consistent player since the turn of the year, but under Xabi Alonso, he seems to have found another level to his game that keeps getting eclipsed in every passing match.
There are still sides of Tchouaméni that will improve in the next few years, but it is time Tchouameni gets his deserved flowers.
Worst: Dani Carvajal
He may not have been the worst Real Madrid player before he decided to channel his inner Zinedine Zidane for all the wrong reasons, but Dani Carvajal was certainly the most annoying figure on the pitch after he head-butted Gerónimo Rulli for a straight red.
Not only was he the captain, but he was also the substitute after Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury.
Without the two right-backs - depending on the extent of Trent's injury - Real Madrid are once again facing a bit of a crisis at right-back, at least in the Champions League.
Carvajal will be out for three games as it is a straight red card, and that means it is going to be Fede Valverde at right-back once again, unless Alonso shows faith in one of Castilla's right-backs.
Either way, not a good situation to be in.
